A citizen access resource for residents of central Maine.

*** Why Get Involved? ***

The radio, television and print industries are necessarily driven entirely by the profit motive. Public access to mega media happens only when it serves to enhance the corporate image with an ultimate benefit to the bottom line. Because of their visibility, national non-profits benefit most from this self serving corporate philanthropy. Local organizations, on the other hand, are limited to listings in the local newspapers’ calendar of events. Access by individuals who have a story to tell, a concern to discuss or a viewpoint to share is virtually unheard of.

Voices of Central Maine provides an alternative to this retrogressive situation.

Through Voices of Central Maine, local individuals can share their stories, interests, concerns, and ideas with the community of central Maine cities and towns. Non-commercial groups can keep our communities informed of their activities and services and their needs to keep those services alive. All this can be done not only as text posts like this, but as video or radio-like audio, and combinations thereof.

GETTING INVOLVED - Two things needed to give life to this project:

PRODUCERS - Individuals who are interested in creating a weekly, biweekly or monthly program and are willing to learn how to do this with the help of appropriate consultation.

BOARD MEMBERS - Individuals interested in developing and guiding this project as a non-profit grass roots community-oriented multi media resource, and are willing to take the time to do the necessary homework to get up to speed on the subject of public access media and the basic techniques and technology involved.

And here are some thought starters to help you decide about getting involved:
